Imagine, you're at the peak of your creative energy. Ideas are flowing at speeds comparable to Tesla's Model S. As you add tracks and plug-ins to build your song, your system begins to bog down. Issues start arizing. Playback issues beigin where your session stops playing after a few seconds, or worse, it wont play any audio at all. If your system has horses only abled to be tamed by William Wallace himself, you'll be blessed with pops and clicks as your song plays, far from the sonic panel you experienced while creating your latest masterpiece.

The cluprit? Your DAW is experiencing DSP issues. Ugh.

As an avid user of Reason Studios, I myself have witnessed these issues. Issues that zap all of the creativity and life out of me. Because of this, I have compiled this article with invaluable tips on how to improve, and optimize performance on Reason Studios. Apply these tips to get your sessions back to lightning mcqueen speeds.

The Audio Card Section

Properly setting up your sound card
Reason studios will automatically search, and detect which audio interfaces, soundcards, and midi devices are connected to your workstation. As convenient as this may be, we are the ones ultimately responsible for ensuring our audio card settings are properly set up. Navigate to this menu, by selecting edit in the navigation menu, followed by preferences towards the bottom, and click on the audio tab.

You will come across the Audio card driver section. You need to select your most efficient audio driver. One that affords you with the least ammount of latency possible. In basic terms, latency is the delay it takes between processing an input (your vocals, midi command, etc). and the time you hear it coming out of your speakers. The lower the latency the more in real time this occurs. This is ideal during recording. However, once you are done recording or playing, and your ready to simply edit, during playback, you may want to increase the latency. This allows Reason Studios to process your effects, plug-ins, automations, etc, more efficiently since its processing everything slightly delayed. Some audio cards also work less efficiently, when you play with the buffer size, so its best to try this and see if your performance improves within Reason Studios.

Bonus tip: Make sure your audio card has the lates drivers installed, and if ASIO drivers are an option, try using this.

The Performance Section

1. Use multi-core audio rendering
Anyone who deals with computers, and laptops knopw, not all computers area created equally. Processing speeds, the type and amount of ram, a soundcard, and even the type of hardrive all play significant roles on how well a workstation can handle audio creation and editing. One way to boost performance in Reason Studios is by enabling Use multi-core audio rendering. By enabling this option, your system can multi-taks more efficiently. The more core's your system has, the better. An octa-core, in theory can perform more efficiently than a quad-core, which should perform better than a duo core.

2. Use hyper-threading audio rendering
Hyperthreading audio, will or will not improve your performance on Reason Studios. The only way to see if it will, is to try with this option enabled or disabled. What is hyper-threading audio you ask? In simple terms, it is technology used to create virtual cores from the ones already existing within your workstation. The goal is to share the workload betwen the existing cores. For some, performance improves. For other's, energy usage increases. For you, try selecting and deselcting, in order to see on whether it helps you or not.

3. Render audio using audio card buffer size setting(Improves plug-in performance)
This option speaks for itself. Whatever buffer settings your audio card is set to, Reason Studios will render the audio in accordingly. You'll be able to process mroe plug-ins because its processing everything evenly.

Bonus tip: Your hard drive matters. Using an SSD (Solid state Drive) works wonders on how efficient Reason Sutdios will perform on your system.

To view any of these options, navigate to the Edit section in the navigation menu, select preferences towards the bottom, and click on the audio tab.

Reason Studios Windows Arrangement

If you still desire better performance out of Reason Studios, try the following suggestions.

1. Hide your cables
One of the reasons why I love Reason Studios, is because it is meant to be as visually appealing as possible. A lot of realistic features exist within this DAW. As beautiful as these settings are, make no mistake about it, Reason Studios, and ultimately, your computer is working hard to keep it that way. By Hiding all cables. you free up those resources used to maintain Reason Studios' visual appeal.

Select Edit in the navigation menu. Navigate to the Preferences, click on the General tab. In the Appearance Section, click on Hide all cables, and dont forget to deselect Cable animation.

2. Minimize your devices
For the same reasons as above, Reason Studios is a beautiful DAW. Every synthesizer and plug-in that you load up, is designed to look amazing. With all of the lights, patterns, and filter automations, visually going on in real-time, Reason Studios is using precious resources providing you with eye candy. Life has taught us that, as beautiful as he or she may be, it's the inside that counts.
3. Remove the pretty lights
When you expand your instrument or plug-in, your presented with an array of cool features. Don't get distracted. We came here for the audio. Lets continue along the same theme, continue freeing up CPU usage by removing those visually appealing settings Reason Studios has to offer.

Once again, in the navigation menu choose Edit. Navigate to the Preferences, click on the General tab. In the Appearance Section, deselect all options underneath the Appearance section.

Bonus tip: Only work on one Reason Song at a time. No other sessions in the background.

In conclusion

We all have that dream. "What dream?" you ask. You know. That dream. That dream of one day playing the lotto, and you guessed it, cha ching!!! You hit! Dolla Dolla Bill Yall! Boss: You quit?
Me: YES, I quit! (explicit) you. (explicit) your dog. (explicit) this job. (explicit), (explicit), (explicit)!

Then I smash some sort of electronic(hey, it must be expensive right?) and walk away feeling like the Nature Boy Ric Flair himself, wooooooooh! But it doesn't end there. I leave, hop into my brand new bugatti, speed out the parking lot, and at the top of my lungs I scream "I'M RICH B!" Dave Chappelle would be proud.

Ahhhh yes, the dream of winning the lottery.

Snapback To Reality

Ooops there goes gravity.

The truth is, the chances of winning the lottery is slim, at best. According to the Huffington Post, the chances of winning the powerball is 1 in 175,223,510. Good luck with that.

Ok, ok, ok, so I know your reading this article, and your asking yourself, "what does working overtime at a job that you hate, have anything to do with the lotto?" If your about chasing that dream, then nothing. But if your about achieving your goals, then everything.

According to BusinessInsider.com, Forbes Asked 50 Billionaires How Much They Worked. Over half said 60 hours a week or more. Furthermore, "...few gamble at all. In fact, the higher a millionaire's net worth, the less likely he is to gamble" according to The Millionaire Mind.

If the rich and the wealthy work more than 40 hours per week, and they don't place their fate on winning the power ball, then why cant we?

Working Overtime To Achieve Your Goal

If your are goal driven, then you already have a list of goals that you aim to conquer. Whether its early retirement, investing, purchasing property, starting your own business, paying off debt, or even traveling, your goals have been set. One way(not the only way) to achieve your goal is through working overtime, even if you hate your job.

For most of us, myself included, our 9 to 5 provides us with a significant amount of our income. Make no doubt about it, living off passive income is the ideal scenario. And if living off passive income is one of your goals, then earning time and a half while working for a job that your willing to earn regular time for can, and will accelerate your path to success.

I've been working overtime at my job nearly every week since I've been eligible. Some weeks I did as little as 4 hours of overtime. Other weeks I did as many as 16. I eliminated my credit card debt, auto loan, and student loan, thanks in part to to all of the overtime I worked.

I decided to live below my means while earning more money. I had the mentality of living below a 40 hour per week paycheck, so imagine all of the extra money I was able to put to work while working a 48 hour week. Paying off my credit cards, auto loand, and student loans was like paying myself first, but on steroids. That's because the interest I was being charged on in these accounts was higher than the return on my investments and the interest earned from my savings accounts. If I would've made the minimum payments required by each creditor, it would take me years to pay it off. Fast forward to today, and I'm still clocking in overtime, only this time the extra money is being used to fund my investments in stocks, commercial real estate, or crypto. I am 100% debt free, excluding my personal mortgage, and mortgage tied to my investment property.

Being financial free is a huge goal to me. I want to tell my boss (explicit) you, I quit! I want to purchase my next property. I continue to split my extra income 4 ways: additional contributions towards my investments, additional contributions towards my brand, and additional savings, and enjoyment for my family and I. One must not forget, investing in your family is important. The best thing about it all, is that my lifestyle wont take a hit. I can still do what I love, plus more, with the love of my life.

Conclusion

So ask yourself, what would you do with a couple hundred or thousand extra dollars in earned income every pay period? Just calculate. How many extra hours would you be comfortable working? Remember, income wise, staying an extra hour 5 days a week is equivalent to working 5 hours on our day off. Once you receive your paycheck, DON'T TOUCH THE EXTRA MONEY! Don't spend it! Don't imagine it! Don't talk to it! Don't sniff it. Don't season it! Don't fondue it! Don't.... wait, I got carried away a little bit. You can tell that I'm hungry, but you get the point. Leave the extra income alone and use it towards your goal. Speed off on your path to your goal, all while screaming "I'm Rich B!". itsKOTIChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18365748861773107484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4680240291049439684.post-10554289304925402902021-02-03T14:36:00.002-05:002021-02-03T15:38:43.882-05:00Be The Boss! Treat Your Money The Same Way Companies Treat Employee

We tend to have a predetermined visual image of what a boss looks like. Society tells us that el jefe (for my español deprived readers outh there, el jefe is Spanish for boss) is always draped in designer threads, drives the latest luxury model automobile, and flashes the most money. In addition, our experiences tell us that the boss is the one who tells us, the employee, what to do. How can anyone be a boss when they work for some one else?

Easy, just put your money to work for you!!!

Treat Your Money As You Would An Employee

To the avaerage American, this is a foreign concept to us. It might as well be in Mandarin. As Americans, we are programmed to spend first. We are told that in order to be successful, we must dress a certain way and have the finest things life has to offer. Outkast rapper Big Boi said it best "I heard its not what you make, but how much you spend." he then goes on to mention "you got me bent." And he's right. This sort of thinking will have you bent.

Lets become bosses by putting our money to work for us instead of giving it away. FinancialJuneteenth.com's Dr. Boyce Watkins clearly makes this point when he discusses the difference between owning Nike vs owning a pair of Nike's (or Jordan's for that matter). In this article he states "In February of 2000, the share price was just $6.64. Since that time, the stock has risen to $132 per share." It's not secret that a pair of Jordan's can easily cost us about $250. Now imagine how many shares of Nike $250 could've bought us. With $250 at $6.64 per Nike share, that is just over 37 shares!!! Here's whats crazy. Fast forward to the quoted share price for Nike stock at $132 per share, and those 37 shares would now be worth $4,884. That is an 1888% increase. All you had to do was set it and forget it. Now I'm not sure about you, but any boss would be more than satisfied with an employee who's production would increase by 1888%.

I smell a promotion.

This is why I've been involved in the stock market since 2009. I jumped in at the riskiest time so far in my lifetime. Not only did I jump in head first during the great recession, I jumped in days after I got fired from my job as a Sales Associate for a fortune 500 company. Not all of us are as comfortable with the risk associated with the stock market. Just ask owners of BlackBerry stock whose stock has plummeted from $230.52 in 2007 to $12.07 as of today February 3rd, 2021. Ouch!

Have No Fear, You Could Still Be A Boss Even If You Don't Invest In Stocks

If stocks intimidate you, then you can still put your money to work in other ways. Not every employee is a Sales Associate. Some are Customer Service Reps, Technical Support Agents, etc. In the case of our money, High Yield online savings accounts and CD's are also available. These instruments offer guaranteed returns, usually higher than traditional savings account. In other words, these employees are guaranteed to produce!

The key is to focus on ways to make your money work for you. With several options available to us, we should always seek to put our money to work first, then spend! We decide if we want to be bosses or not. We can purchase shares of Google or Google devices. As the boss of our own business, we need our business to boom. We should always hire our own employees by saving, investing, and acquiring assets. Once we master the art of putting our money to work for us, we now become el jefe.itsKOTIChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18365748861773107484noreply@blogger.com
